It doesn’t have those ingredients that Dr. Dudley said to avoid and has 21.6% zinc oxide. It does have a white cast but it’s only about 12 dollars. It has water, which Dr. Dudley mentions in one of the interviews as not ideal. I can’t afford to use his products, so hopefully, this is a good alternative. I’ll keep a lookout for other options. I know how hard it is to find a decent sunscreen. Maybe someone will find this useful, who is also on a budget.
Active ingredient: Zinc oxide 21.6% (sunscreen).
Inactive ingredients: Water, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Styrene/acrylates Copolymer, Octyldodecyl Citrate Crosspolymer, Phenyl Trimethicone, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Glycerin, Ethyl Methicone, Cetyl Dimethicone, Silica, Chrysanthemum Parthenium (Feverfew) Flower/leaf/stem Juice, Glyceryl Behenate, Phenethyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Glycol, Cetyl Dimethicone/bis-vinyldimethicone Crosspolymer, Acrylates/dimethicone Copolymer, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

Jenny, I agree. You really have to do your research. 🙂

With so many sunscreen lotions available in the market today, you can barely see trusted brands that offer quality and safe sunscreens.

Barbara, I don’t think those synthetic UV filters will give you cancer but they are more likely to irritate your skin. Also, because some of them end up in the bloodstream, there are concerns about how they affect babies. For example, in adults avobenzone is execrated by urine but pregnant women are still recommended to avoid it. Personally, I believe that, since we have safer alternatives, it’s best to opt for those. Basically, if they really killed you, we would know by now. They’ve been used for decades! But they do pose more problems that their alternatives so that’s something to consider when you buy sunscreen.

I don’t think sun protection is to blame for lack of vitamin D either. When you think about it, no one (not even doctors who cure melanoma on a daily basis) use the recommended amount of sunscreen and reapply it as often as they should. Add to that that no sunscreen protects against 100% of UV rays and it’s obvious we’re all still getting a fair amount of unprotected sun exposure. Personally, I use sunscreen every day but if, like you, I spend most of my day indoors, I don’t bother with reapplication.

Homosalate at 12%! That sounds high… also avobenzone and oxybenzone both at 3% each. Which doesn´t sound as bad as 12% but I think it´s on the high end too, right? So frustrating, we have to use suncreen to protect ourselves from skin cancer (among other things) and we end up poisoning ourselves internally.

On the other hand, I don´t agree that we have to always wear sunscreen everyday. I think it really depends on your daily life and activities. I have contact with the sun maybe 10 minutes a day (5 minutes in the am and 5 minutes in the pm). I don´t sit by a window. Also mynutritionist friend told me that we are lacking Vitamin D due all that skin protection. However, I would wear sunscreen if I´m going to be a minute out of my normal route or if I use retinol the night before. Skin! Why is it so complicated?!

Renato, usually, it will say so somewhere on the packaging.
