SILICONES

I know a lot of you don’t like using silicones. But my hair digs them. Here’s why…

Silicones coats every strand of your hair, creating a protective barrier that:

  • Keeps moisture in, helping to keep hair hydrated for longer
  • Protects it from the heat of your blowdryer and other styling tools
  • Smoothens out the cuticles, so hair can better reflect line and shine
  • Helps your comb glide smoothly through your hair and makes it easier to style
  • Helps prevent breakage

The catch? Heavy silicones like Dimethicone (yes, that’s in Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Mist Oil, too) can accumulate on your hair, causing buildup. Luckily, that’s nothing a good wash can’t fix.

What oils are in this mist? Mostly sunflower and jojoba. Like silicones, they can’t penetrate hair (very few oils can). They just stay on the surface, where they create a protective barrier that makes hair softer, shinier, and stronger.

Texture

Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Mist Oil has a lightweight texture that won’t weight your hair down nor make it look greasy. Phew!

Fragrance

White flowers with a hint of citrus. Not my fave, but very feminine.

How To Use It

Apply a small amount throughout damp hair and style as usual. Or use it as a deep conditioner 1-2 times a week. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash your hair as usual.

Performance & Personal Opinion

The instructions may say to use Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Mist Oil on damp hair, but I sometimes apply it on dry hair, too. Either way, it makes my hair softer and shinier.

I’ve noticed my brush glides more easily through my locks and doesn’t lose as many hairs as normal. It definitely helps with breakage, so no complains about that.

I usually prefer to let my hair air-dry as it’s less damaging on my hair. But I did use a blowdryer a couple of times to test how good the mist is at protecting my locks from the heat. I’m happy to report it did the job well: my hair didn’t feel as dry as it usually does after a blow-dry.

Overall, Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Mist Oil does what it claims to do: it makes my hair look shiny, soft and healthy. And did I mention it tames frizz, too?
