roger and gallet fleur d'osmanthus shower gel review

When it comes to body washes, I only have two criteria:

  • It must cleanse skin without drying it out
  • It must smell good – preferably citrusy or oriental

Roger & Gallet Fleur D’Osmanthus Fresh Shower Gel fits both criteria. Here’s why:

What’s In Roger & Gallet Fleur d’Osmanthus Fresh Shower Gel?

SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE

Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a surfactant. That’s a fancy way of saying it cleanses skin by helping water mix with oil and dirt, so they can be rinsed away.

As far as surfactants go, Sodium Laureth Sulfate hits the sweet spot. It’s powerful enough to remove impurities from the skin, yet gentle enough not to dry it out.

GLYCERIN

Doesn’t matter how gentle surfactants are, the cleansing process always has the potential to be a little traumatic for skin – especially if it’s dry or sensitive.

Enter glycerin. It’s a humectant that draws moisture from the environment into the skin.

Translation: Glycerin makes sure your skin stays hydrated throughout the cleansing process. Phew!

Texture

Lightweight gel that produces a light lather.

Fragrance

Zesty citrus. The zesty, refreshing aroma of citrus fruits dominates the entire composition, while the quieter, subtler scent of the osmanthus flower only makes a brief appearance.

How To Use It

Massage it all over damp skin and rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Performance & Personal Opinion

There’s not much to say about Roger & Gallet Fleur d’Osmanthus Fresh Shower Gel. It does what every shower gel should do: it produces a decent bit of foam and cleanses skin well without drying it out.

FYI, my skin is as dry as the Sahara and this didn’t make it worse. After the shower, it wasn’t super hydrated, but not dry and tight either. That’s good enough for me.

Plus, it smells amazing. But then, I’m a sucker for anything citrus.

Who Is This For?

Everyone can use it, especially if you love citrusy scents.

Who Is This NOT For?

Anyone who doesn’t like citrusy scents.

Packaging

A lime green tube. Cute, but not too practical. The opening always releases too much product.

Does Roger & Gallet Fleur d’Osmanthus Fresh Shower Gel Live Up To Its Claims?

CLAIM TRUE?
The surprising honey texture transforms on contact with water into a light cleansing foam. I’m not sure what they mean with honey and the texture doesn’t change that much.
Enriched with aloe vera, the formula improves the skin’s softness and suppleness. It has Aloe vera, but in too small amount to do anything. But then Roger & Gallet doesn’t claim it’s Aloe vera that does the deed. It just tells that you the formula, which happens to contain aloe vera, can increase softness. It does a little – thanks to glycerin.

Do You Need It?

It’s not a must, but it’s a nice-to-have if you dig citrusy scents.
